FROM GAMING TO IMPACT: GAMESCOM CONGRESS 2025 UNVEILS TOPICS AND MODERATOR

Just how far can games go beyond pure entertainment to become a driving force for innovation, social progress, and well-being? That’s the central question at gamescom congress 2025. To explore it, this year’s event will focus on three major themes that are shaping the current conversation around computer and video games, opening up new perspectives.

These themes reflect the wide-ranging potential of games in terms of innovation, responsibility, and well-being across business, culture, and society.

On the one hand, this is about the next level of immersive technologies which are revolutionizing how we understand interaction and collaboration. Additionally, the spotlight shifts to responsibility and sustainability. After all, games can significantly contribute as tools for social inclusion and democratic education. Last but not least, the congress will examine how games can boost mental and physical health and strengthen social connections.

The three central themes of gamescom congress 2025 in detail:

The Next Level of Immersion

How are immersive technologies like extended reality (XR), spatial computing, augmented reality (AR), and artificial intelligence (AI) transforming how we learn, work, and interact through play? What opportunities do virtual spaces and new interfaces create for fields like education, culture, public administration, and even medicine, architecture, and mobility? The congress will explore how integrating modern technologies with playful approaches can make complex content more accessible – from history and politics to cultural education.

Gaming and Responsibility

What potential do games hold as tools for social participation, democratic education, and diversity? The congress will address the role of games in sustainability communication – for example, regarding the environment or consumer behavior – and examine how NGOs, foundations, and educational initiatives can leverage games as platforms for learning and engagement. Another key area of focus is digital responsibility: responsibility to ourselves, our communities, and society at large. This includes topics like gaming in the fight against disinformation, the responsible use of AI, and fostering respectful interactions in digital communities.

Gaming and Well-Being

In times of uncertainty within society, games are increasingly seen as a way to boost social connections, resilience, and mental and physical health. The congress will discuss how games can support physical well-being – for instance, in rehabilitation and inclusion, stress management for adults, or strengthening emotional skills in children.

In addition to these three main topics, gamescom congress 2025 will also address broader issues: How do games shape the future of education, science, and cultural policy across Europe? What economic spillover effects do gaming technologies create in various traditional sectors like healthcare, fashion, and aerospace? And what new partnerships are emerging through collaboration between the games industry, research institutions, government, and civil society? These and other questions will be discussed at this year’s gamescom congress. The full program and speaker lineup will be announced soon.
