Following its triumphant debut last year, the British Museum has confirmed its return to Brand Licensing Europe in 2025.
Officially the UK’s most visited tourist attraction*, the British Museum welcomed 6.5 million visitors in 2024, up from 5.8 million the previous year. Interest in the Museum is set to grow further with the announcement that the world-renowned Bayeux Tapestry will go on display from autumn 2026 through to July 2027. This will be the first time that the Tapestry has been shown in the UK since it was made, almost 1,000 years ago – and is expected to be one of the Museum’s most popular exhibitions ever.
This growing public interest is set to drive commercial demand for the British Museum’s IP – both as a world-leading cultural institution and through its licensing programmes, driven by a curated selection of 1,200 artefacts from across the Museum’s archive of over eight million objects.
Brand Licensing Europe 2025 will provide an opportunity for potential partners to explore the exceptional potential of this high-equity brand IP. The British Museum’s presentation slate will include:
- New brand collaborations designed to enhance families’ and children’s connection with the Museum – creating relatable entry points for young people, children, families, and Millennials alike.
- Continued development of the Museum’s character IP, Bastet, cute cat and guardian of the Museum, based on the world-famous Gayer-Anderson Cat bronze sculpture from the Ancient Egyptian collection.
- Expansion into interiors and homewares, with colour palettes drawn from the Museum’s collections inspiring new ranges in paint, furniture, and soft furnishings.
- Ongoing licensing development, focused on audience and category growth and building upon a strong foundation in consumer products – continuing to attract best-in-class licensees and retailers, keen to offer their customers a little piece of history.
