Amazon MGM Studios has closed a deal with Jazwares to develop a feature film based on the blockbuster global plush toy line, Squishmallows.

Beau Flynn (Hello Kitty, Moana) is producing the project via his FlynnPictureCo. banner, alongside Jazwares. Shelby Thomas is overseeing the development on behalf of FlynnPictureCo.

A billion-dollar global phenomenon

Launched in 2017, Squishmallows has grown from the #1 plush brand into a $1 billion global lifestyle franchise sold across more than 60 countries, with two Squishmallows sold every second worldwide. Known for its unmatched softness, signature squish, and unique character personalities, the brand’s universe now spans over 3,000 original characters — ranging from brand ambassador Cam the Cat to Bigfoots, Axolotls, and Lil Gouda.

In less than a decade, Squishmallows has surpassed 600 million unit sales and generated over 15 billion organic social impressions across TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat. Beyond plush toys, the franchise features a robust consumer products licensing program with more than 120 global partners across apparel, health and beauty, home decor, and lifestyle goods. The brand will celebrate its milestone 10th anniversary in 2027.

Production and studio leadership

Producer Beau Flynn has been behind some of Hollywood’s biggest global successes, spanning over 35 films and more than $4 billion at the worldwide box office with hits such as Disney’s Moana and Jungle Cruise, DC’s Black Adam, and Netflix’s Red Notice. Flynn is also currently producing the Hello Kitty feature film for Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and New Line Cinema, set for release on July 21, 2028.
