Warner Bros. Discovery Italy celebrated “Superman Day”

The Man of Tomorrow and his extraordinary legacy are celebrated with an event in the heart of Milan, television tributes, cinematic releases, new publications, and many exclusive products.

On April 18, Warner Bros. Discovery Italy invited DC fans from around the world to celebrate “Superman Day” in honor of history’s first superhero. Events, TV programs, new movie releases, new publications, and a wide range of dedicated products created by the various divisions of Warner Bros. Discovery – DC Comics and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products (WBDGCP) – offered fans of all generations a unique opportunity to celebrate the DC superhero.

“Superman Day” was also an occasion to celebrate the upcoming theatrical release of the highly anticipated new film from DC Studios, “Supergirl,” arriving in Italian theaters on June 25, 2026, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. Produced by Peter Safran and James Gunn, and directed by Craig Gillespie, the film will see Supergirl/Kara Zor-El, played by Milly Alcock, face an interstellar adventure of revenge and justice.

Created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, Superman changed the world of pop culture starting with the publication of the iconic Action Comics #1 by DC on April 18, 1938. Since his debut, Superman has been an international symbol of hope, strength, and kindness, inspiring people of all generations through film, TV, cartoons, comics, and more.

CELEBRATIONS IN ITALY AN EXCLUSIVE EVENT IN MILAN In Italy, “Superman Day” was celebrated in the heart of Milan, the only European city designated to host the official celebration of the superhero who has inspired generations for over eighty years. On Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19, from 10 AM to 7 PM, the famous Daily Planet came to life with an experiential pop-up inside the CityLife district, which for two days offered adults and children the chance to immerse themselves in the Superman universe. Built around a themed newsstand inspired by Metropolis’ historic newspaper, several entertainment areas were created: from the area dedicated to Krypto to the iconic Superman “S” shield, a photo opportunity zone, and a photobooth to print a souvenir postcard of Metropolis. It was also possible to pick up a free special edition of the Daily Planet featuring exclusive articles dedicated to the Man of Tomorrow.

STREAMING AND TV PROGRAMMING

To celebrate “Superman Day,” fans turned to films dedicated to one of pop culture’s most iconic characters. Among the most recent releases, James Gunn’s Superman (2025), starring David Corenswet, was available for streaming on HBO Max, the platform recently launched in Italy which has already become a reference point for DC fans. Cartoon Network also offered special programming: younger fans celebrated with a marathon of “Teen Titans Go!” episodes featuring Superman, alongside animated shorts starring Krypto. Finally, viewers of Nove, DMAX, and K2 saw fun facts and trivia about the famous trio—Superman, Supergirl, and Krypto—appearing on screen throughout the day.

PUBLICATIONS

To delve deeper into the comic book culture that inspired the cinematic versions of the characters, Panini Comics offered a selection of volumes ranging from great classics to new stories. Readers rediscovered titles like All-Star Superman and Superman: For All Seasons, which inspired the 2025 film, as well as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Among the new releases, Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton stands out, arriving on April 23, telling the tender and adventurous origin story of the famous Super-Dog. Furthermore, in June, Supergirl: The World will be released—an international anthology bringing together authors from different countries to tell new adventures. For Italy, the story is written by Francesca Michielin, with a script by Irene Marchesini and art by Federica Croci.

THEMED PRODUCTS AND RETAIL ACTIVITY

Numerous products inspired by Superman were created by prestigious brands in collaboration with WBDGCP:

  • Mattel offered Fisher-Price Imaginext play sets for younger fans.

  • Funko launched a rich selection of collectible figures and a glow-in-the-dark backpack.

  • Clementoni proposed numerous puzzles, ranging from simple versions for children to 1000-piece challenges.

  • McFarlane Toys presented highly detailed action figures for collectors.

  • Excélsa dedicated a special selection of home goods: placemats, mugs, lunch boxes, and more. Finally, “Superman Day” was celebrated on Amazon, where a dedicated DC shop offered fans the chance to explore the latest Superman releases and discover a vast range of must-have products.
