SOS Roots for the first time at the BLTF/K 2026

SOS Roots has announced its participation in BLTF/K 2026. Below, the company shares the values and vision that drive its work.

In today’s fast-moving world, people struggle to hold onto their roots. The relentless pace of technological change, shifting social landscapes, and the pressures of global finance make it harder to pause and ask the fundamental questions: where do we come from, and where are we headed? The inequalities and conflicts that have long troubled humanity are now joined by subtler threats — ones that erode what it means to be human in the first place.

Caught up in the demands of daily life, many people rarely get the chance to reflect on their need for belonging, or to think about the cultural and moral inheritance they’ll pass on to future generations. Some, aware of this, try to act — however modestly — guided by the spirit of Gandhi’s words: “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”

SOS Roots is among them. Specifically, the company:

  1. Works to keep cultural and anthropological identities from being quietly dissolved — by the relentless churn of media, by globalisation’s tendency to flatten difference, and by technological and political shifts that can strip communities of their distinctiveness;
  2. Records, writes and passes on the traditions, stories and values of those whose lives shaped the world that living generations have inherited;
  3. Believes that the tension between old and new doesn’t have to be a clash — it can be a productive dialogue, one where different cultures and generations meet with mutual respect rather than suspicion;
  4. Holds that reconnecting with the past isn’t nostalgia — it’s a source of grounded hope and clear-eyed aspiration for the future;
    Recognises that publishing, like everything else, has been transformed by the current moment. The literary traditions of the past — with their depth of knowledge and mastery of language — have given way to new formats and expectations. SOS Roots sees the fading of classical literature as part of a broader loss, and responds by giving voice to distinctive human stories and places through a new kind of fiction: one that is rooted, character-driven, and alive to the richness of the world’s many identities.
