FANDOM EVALUATES PEACOCK AS THE BEST POSITIONED STREAMER FOR ACQUISITION OR BUNDLING

As the streaming landscape undergoes significant evolution marked by consolidation and bundling, Fandom, the world’s largest fan platform, has released key insights highlighting the strategic positioning of Peacock. Peacock is viewed as the premier streaming platform for potential mergers aimed at enhancing content offerings and retaining subscribers.

Fandom’s analysis, based on its proprietary data set known as FanDNA, reveals that Peacock boasts substantial engagement with 350 million monthly visitors and more than 50 million pages of content across its brand portfolio, which includes GameSpot, TV Guide, and Metacritic. The insights generated from this data suggest that Peacock’s diverse content library is well-placed to complement other leading streaming services.

Key Findings

Fandom’s analysis involved examining user engagement across 300 subgenres, showcasing how Peacock consistently outperforms its competitors in specific content categories. Notably, Peacock excels in reality programming (notably driven by Bravo), medical and crime procedural dramas and combat sports entertainment (including WWE).

Fandom users who favor Peacock content show a marked interest in 88 of the 300 subgenres analyzed, demonstrating significant over indexing in key areas, such as cop dramas, police procedurals, suspense mysteries, CG animation and combat sports.

Opportunities for Bundling

As streaming platforms seek to form strategic partnerships, Fandom’s data indicates that Peacock would enhance the value proposition of major services like Disney+/Hulu and Netflix.

Historically, Disney+/Hulu hosted a significant portion of NBCUniversal’s content before its migration to Peacock in 2022. Fandom users who are fans of Disney+/Hulu show substantial interest in genres such as superhero sci-fi, space sci-fi, epic sci-fi, animation for adults, and supernatural fantasy.

Peacock’s engagement statistics reveal that it over-indexes in 88 subgenres, with 21 of these currently absent from Disney+/Hulu. Combining these offerings could create a robust content package of 159 distinct subgenres, enriching both platforms.

Users who engage with Netflix demonstrate varied interests across 70 subgenres, including Supernatural fantasy, 2D animation, CG animation, animation for adults, superhero action.

Integrating Peacock’s 38 unique subgenres with Netflix could provide a comprehensive selection of 108 distinct offerings, enhancing Netflix’s content diversity and attracting a broader audience.

Fandom’s insights were derived from cross subgenre visitation data, utilizing the proprietary first-party data collected through FanDNA and FanDNA Helix.

Fandom’s findings demonstrate that Peacock is ideally positioned for strategic mergers or bundling with major streaming platforms. Its unique content strengths and high audience engagement levels offer valuable opportunities to enhance the content diversity and overall appeal of streaming services such as Disney+/Hulu and Netflix.
