We chose a diverse range of pitches from across Asia – from South Korea to Thailand, Singapore to the Philippines.
From crime to rom com, horror to family drama, they have compelling stories, a unique point of view, and a potential for global resonance.
What have been your best achievements in the last year?
Multiple award wins and an expanding slate of projects from Momo Film Co after acquiring the business two years ago. Including two Golden Leopard wins at Locarno festival, a co pro deal with Kenaz Webtoons, and a slate of exciting features in major SEA markets. Off the back of BHP’s launch of Mr Midnight in 2022, we are aiming to announce more series projects for 2024.
We are announcing our first IMAX documentary feature The elephant odyssey, a co-production between IMAX, BHP and Chinese partners China Review Studio.
We are also going into production on the exciting car series The Ride Life with Fast & Furious star Sung Kang, and having two new series with wildlife platform Love Nature – Survival of the beast and Macaque Island.
Furthermore, we can boast of earning a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lifestyle Series for our Netflix unscripted series Mind your manners, while our true crime feature doc Missing: the Lucie Blackman case is rising to Number 1 on Netflix US and UK, and our true crime feature doc Ice Cold: Murder, Coffee & Jessica Wongso staying Number 1 on Netflix in Indonesia for a record four weeks, the first documentary to achieve that.
Moreover, we obtained a Grierson Awards nomination for our premium science series Evolve, and a 2024 Realscreen Award nomination for Best Non Fiction: Science & Technology, for our series Lift the Ice.
What are your objectives and priorities for 2024?
You will hear a lot more about our fast growing scripted slate – both series and features – in Asia and internationally in 2024, so stay tuned. We are also going out to market with more true crime docs and more unscripted entertainment, focusing on both Asian and US pitches. We are also planning to ramp up co-productions with SEA, Korea, China, Australia, US, Europe and the UK in both scripted and non-scripted projects, and expand our slate of branded solutions content and short form content for worldwide distribution and digital platforms.
