SpongeBob SquarePants, the cross target property of Paramount, is the protagonist of this summer’s collection of the fashion partnership GCDS.
Since its launch on July 17, 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants has reigned as the most-watched animated series for nearly 20 consecutive years, spawning a universe of beloved characters, pop culture catchphrases and memes, theatrical releases, consumer products, a Tony Award-winning musical of Broadway and a global fan base.
Today it is also considered a style icon, in fact, it is not the first time that Bikini Botton’s most loved marine sponge is the protagonist of a fashion collection.
This time it was chosen by the creative director of GCDS, Giuliano Calza, a lover of pop culture and a great fan of SpongeBob, who was inspired by SpongeBob to create a collection of garments with a joyful tone and which celebrate beauty of human differences. The international model Bianca Balti opened the Milan fashion show with a yellow total look inspired by SpongeBob. The collection includes a series of women’s and children’s clothing and accessories, already on sale in GCDS stores and retailers worldwide and online.
SpongeBob SquarePants is one of the most widely distributed properties in Paramount Global’s history, seen in more than 170 countries, translated into more than 29 languages and averaging over 100 million total viewers each quarter.
Since its debut SpongeBob SquarePants has become loved all over the world for its contagious optimism, irreverent humor but also for its social activism in support of campaigns for the protection of the seas and the ocean. Today it is considered a pop icon, loved by all the generations who grew up in his company.
“SpongeBob has always been an icon much loved by fashion designers. It is an evergreen property that embraces a vast and inclusive audience. We are very happy that the Creative Director Giuliano Calza has chosen him as the protagonist of this summer collection signed by GCDS. It is always a great pride for us at Paramount to be able to bring back SpongeBob and its unmistakable irony into different fields and return to such an important sector as fashion. I also thank my team and the GCDS team for making this important partnership possible” says Simone Fenu, Senior Director licensing Italy, Greece, Malta for Paramount.
In Italy, SpongeBob SquarePants is broadcast on Nickelodeon (Sky channel 605) and Super! (channel 47 of the dtt and tivusat and 625 of Sky) the two brands targeting children and teenagers by Paramount, on Pluto TV the completely free digital service FAST (Free Ad-Supported Television) by Paramount and on Paramount+, the streaming service of the brand.
