The new animated series in 3D lands on RAI

40 years after their first appearance on TV, The Smurfs are coming to RAI for the first time in a brand new 3D version. From 4 April, Rai Yoyo, the public service channel dedicated to children’s ratings leader, will be the new home of the popular blue characters created by Peyo.

A new animated series of 52 episodes of 11 minutes produced by Peyo Productions and Dupuis Audiovisuel dedicated to boys and girls aged 5 to 10 years, which keeps intact the DNA of the comics where the Smurfs (in French Les Schtroumpfs) were born in 1958, combining it with the fast pace suitable for today’s viewers and an explosive charge of adventure and humour.

This new series will deliver the wise Papa Smurf, the mythical Smurfette and all the other inhabitants of the mushroom-shaped houses in the collective imagination of the new generations, after being childhood companions of children but also of adults of the 80s who have decreed one of the biggest hits of TV, thanks to the catchy songs and the particular language used by the Smurfs became famous.

Directing the new episodes is director William Renaud, already behind the success of Rai Yoyo’s new animated series “Calimero”, while the scripts are by Peter Saisselin and Amy Serafin (Alvinnn!!! and the Chipmunks, the series).

In addition to the female characters who have already appeared in the recent feature films, such as Storm, Bocciolina, Lily, the new series introduces new characters who will join the other Smurfs to fight against the evil Gargamel, the same villain who, together with his inseparable cat Birba, tries to capture them each time, systematically failing.
