SEASCREEN PROJECT MARKET FINALISTS

1 Dec - 2021

SEAScreen Project Market unveils inaugural 2021 selection at Asia TV Forum & Market / ScreenSingapore

The inaugural SEAScreen Project Market (SPM) launches at the Asia TV Forum & Market / ScreenSingapore (ATF/SS) on 1st December 2021 with its selection of 15 feature film and television projects slated for financing and co-production meetings with decision makers across ATF/SS.

SPM was formerly known as the Southeast Asian Film Financing Project Market (SAFF), which successfully ran from 2015 to 2021, and showcased top feature-length film projects in development in Southeast Asia.

This year, the event has been relaunched to include television series, as well as feature films across genres such as animation, factual entertainment, and digital shorts. Eligible projects must have at least one Southeast Asian element to be considered.

Co-organised by RX, the producer of Asia TV Forum & Market (ATF) and ScreenSingapore, with the Southeast Asian Audio-Visual Association (SAAVA), SPM continues SAFF’s long-term partnership with the prestigious Ties That Bind (TTB) Co-Production Workshop (organised by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Audiovisual Fund, EAVE, Udine Far East Film Festival and SAAVA) and will virtually co-locate its project selection with TTB’s own selections each year on the ATF Online+ platform, where interested co-producers and buyers are encouraged to schedule meetings with the curated projects.

Justin Deimen, Executive Director of SAAVA said, “It has been a challenging couple of years not being able to share Singaporean hospitality with our participants during our country’s year-end celebration of content producers and filmmakers, but we remain grateful and happy to have the support of our partners across the world – especially when we evolved into a new and even more relevant platform for the region as storytelling continues to converge across mediums.”

On this year’s SPM, Group Project Director of ATF Yeow Hui Leng said, “It has been a pleasure curating this programme with all our partners, and ATF is committed to promoting the best of Asian storytelling to the world. We are looking forward to convene in 2022 for the much awaited in-person workshop where creators and commissioners from all over the world can meet once again.”

This year’s selection comes from a large pool of entries spanning Asia, Europe, and South America. The list of finalist projects and applicants can be found in the Annex.

The SPM will be held in conjunction with the SEAScreen Conference, which sees speakers such as Zainir Aminullah (Revolution Media), Jean Baptiste Babin (Backup Media), Micah Tadena (108 Media), Geremia Biagiotti (Intramovies), and Mandy Marahimin (Tanakhir Films), sharing their thoughts on the European and Southeast Asian film industry. The conference will also feature a special session on artificial intelligence and its impact on filmmaking, led by Teo Yi-Ling (SAAVA) and Dr Pei-Sze Chow of the University of Amsterdam.

ATF and ScreenSingapore are part of the Singapore Media Festival, hosted by the Infocomm Media Development Authority, and will take place from 1 to 3 December 2021. For more information, please visit www.asiatvforum.com.
