Nike and Giannis celebrate UNO’s 50th anniversary with a big “dunk”; an exclusive collection consisting of a footwear line, an apparel capsule, a pack of cards customised by Mattel Creations and an event on the UNO app

Mattel, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAT) is launching the first-ever collaboration between UNO and Nike, with a product line developed in collaboration with 2019-20 Kia NBA’s best player and huge UNO fan, Giannis Antetokounmpo.

“I want every product to be genuine and authentic, and playing UNO with my brothers is an important part of our lives,” Antetokounmpo said. “The Nike team did a great job bringing my ideas to life and I think they created something great for every Nike, UNO and basketball fan with this collection.”

“Working with Nike and Giannis to design and curate this collection was truly an honor. This collaboration shows how ONE can bring people together, including the Antetokounmpo family,” said Ray Adler, Global Head of Games, Mattel. “The collaboration with this iconic brand and world-class athlete is the perfect celebration of UNO’s 50th anniversary.”

The collaboration features details celebrating Giannis and his family’s passion for UNO, incorporating the game’s iconic colours, design elements and one and a few cards with specially crafted graphics in the following products:

  • Zoom Freak 3, Air Force 1 and Offline line of shoes signed by Nike in the iconic UNO colours and Giannis’ design. There will also be a black version reserved for Zoom Freak 3 members with a UNO 50th anniversary logo on the tongue and an image of the Color Changing Joker on the toe, as well as fun graphics in the primary colours to complete the UNO look.
  • Special edition Nike apparel capsule that includes a classic cotton t-shirt and cap with Giannis’ numbered visor. The footwear line and apparel capsule will go on sale on Nike.com in the coming months. Giannis-branded UNO card deck with a new rule that players can “steal the ball” to earn extra scraps and go on the offensive to win. The deck will be sold on Mattel Creations and NTWRK from 11 November.
  • As part of the collaboration, the UNO mobile app will integrate the Giannis-branded UNO pack of cards for use on iOS and Android devices. With the cards, players will be able to use the special “steal the ball” rule and decorate their profiles with themed rewards. The cards and other rewards will be available from November 1-30 on the UNO app as part of the UNO X Giannis event.

Mattel Creations collaborates with today’s most creative artists, brands and pop culture influencers to transform Mattel’s most iconic toys into innovative design projects where toys become art and art is influenced by toys.
