The visual album “Black Is King” will make its worldwide debut on Disney+ on July 31, 2020
Parkwood Entertainment, in association with Disney+, announced and launched the video teaser of the visual album “Black Is King” written, directed and produced by 24-time Grammy® Award winning Beyoncé. “Black Is King” will debut worldwide on Disney+ on July 31, 2020 and comes one year after the release of the global Disney phenomenon The Lion King.
Beyoncé’s visual album re-imagines the themes of The Lion King to accompany today’s young queens and young kings on their personal journey in search of their crown. The film has been in production for a year with a cast and crew representing diversity and inclusion.
The travels of the Black families over time are celebrated in a story about a young king’s growth through betrayal, love and identity. His ancestors guide him to his destiny and, with the teachings of his father and the guidance of his childhood love, he gains the virtues necessary to regain his home and throne.
These timeless lessons are revealed and expressed through today’s black voices that stand out in all their strength. “Black Is King” is the affirmation of a great goal, with wonderful images celebrating the resilience and culture of the Black people. The film highlights the beauty of Black tradition and excellence.
Based on the music of “The Lion King: The Gift”, “Black is King” features in the cast the artists who participated in the album and some special guests and represents for the world the celebration of the experience of the Black people. The videos of the songs “My Power”, “Mood 4 Eva” and “Brown Skin Girl” are extravagances with elegance and soul. The film is a story for posterity that informs and reconstructs the present. A union of cultures and beliefs shared between generations. It’s a story about how these people, so tried and tested, have an extraordinary gift and an important future.
