In honor of its 75th anniversary, the Thomas & Friends announces the arrival of a special episode “Thomas & Friends – The Royal Engine” with the video introduction made by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, in person

Mattel, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAT), today announces the arrival of the special episode “Thomas & Friends – The Royal Engine”, which will be accompanied by a short video introduction by Harry, Duke of Sussex. This special episode of the new animated series of “The Thomas Train”, was produced on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the birth of the brand which is celebrated this year and has as its characters His Majesty the Queen of England and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales still a child.

The content recounts Thomas’ journey to London, during which he will meet a new character, Duchess of Loughborough, whose voice in the original language is lent by actress Rosamund Pike (star of “Gone Girl” and interprte in “Pride and Prejudice”). About her performance Rosamund Pike says, “it’s a real honor for me to have the opportunity to be present in this episode. I consider it a great responsibility to play Duchess, who is an affectionate, lovable but also sparkling and lively locomotive and to whom I feel incredibly close, because like me she cares a lot about doing things the right way“.

Since its origins, the Thomas & Friends  has always celebrated friendship and teamwork through his stories, winning the affection of many fans of all generations. For this important milestone of the 75th anniversary, we decided to produce even more animated content to engage the next generation of young fans“, these are the words of Chuck Scothon, SVP and GM for Mattel’s Childhood and Pre-School category. “At this time when families spend more time at home, we want to offer new content through videos, books, apps, music and podcasts that can discover adults and children together, and we are proud of this introduction to the new special episode made by the Duke of Sussex, Harry“.

The Duke of Sussex, by the way, said “The Thomas & Friends has always been a reassuring and friendly character for many families over the last 75 years: it has entertained, educated and inspired children on important issues through exciting stories and characters. I too have wonderful childhood memories of the Thomas train, which accompanied me as I grew up and took me to new places through its adventures. I am very proud to have been invited to take part in this special episode and wish the Thomas & Friends a happy anniversary. ”

The video introduction, made by the Duke of Sussex, was recorded in January this year, following a donation made to charity. In the 22-minute special, Sir Topham Hatt was invited to London by Her Majesty the Queen to receive an award for his distinguished service to the railway over the years, and his son, a young Prince Charles, requested that the Thomas accompany him to the mainland. However, being Thomas’ first visit to London, he gets lost along the way, having to face many vicissitudes, but this does not prevent him from reaching his destination. Thomas and Sir Topham Hatt work together to make up for their delay and during the journey Thomas meets Duchess, a new locomotive with an elegant appearance.

The Thomas & Friends’s global publishing plan for this year includes the launch of several narrative formats starting with the arrival of the new season of content and new special episodes, continuing with exclusive content dedicated to the Youtube channel, a music album for birthday, children’s podcasts and new book titles, as well as exciting new partnerships.
