Disney+, arrives today in Italy and in different European countries with 26 original productions together with a wide collection of titles by Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic and others

Disney+, the highly anticipated streaming platform of The Walt Disney Company, arrives today in Italy, UK, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Austria and Switzerland.

The platform will also be launched in France on April 7th.

With over 500 films, 26 exclusive original productions, including films and series, and thousands of TV episodes from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic and others, Disney+ is the new home of streaming some of the world’s most beloved stories.

The simultaneous launch in 7 markets marks a new milestone for Disney+,” said Kevin Mayer, Chairman of Walt Disney Direct-to-Consumer & International. “As the streaming home of Disney, Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars and National Geographic, Disney+ offers the positive, high-quality storytelling that fans have come to expect from our brands and is now available in a broad, affordable and permanent way on Disney+. Our humble hope is that this service will bring families a kind of “truce” during these difficult times.

Starting today, subscribers will be able to enjoy 26 original Disney+ productions including The Mandalorian, Star Wars’ first epic live-action event series; Lilli and the Tramp, the new live-action version of the 1955 animated classic; High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, the new television series set in the real East High already seen in the hugely successful films; The World According to Jeff Goldblum, National Geographic’s docu-series; Marvel’s Hero Project, celebrating extraordinary kids who make a difference in their communities; Encore! , which sees the talented Kristen Bell as executive producer; Behind the Scenes of Disney Parks: The Imagineering Story, a six-part documentary directed and produced by Leslie Iwerks, Emmy and Oscar-nominated director, and collections of animated shorts SparkShorts and Pixar Animation Studios’ Forky’s The Why.

Disney+ is also the new streaming home of the iconic animated series The Simpsons, with over 600 episodes available on-demand for the first time together. At launch, the first 30 seasons will be available, with the thirty-first coming on the streaming service this year.

From today, audiences can watch Disney+ streaming on most mobile and Smart TV or connected devices, including game consoles, set top boxes and similar devices. Subscribers can enjoy high quality and uninterrupted viewing, up to 4 simultaneous streams, unlimited downloads to 10 devices, personalized viewing tips and the ability to create up to 7 different profiles, including the opportunity for parents to set up profiles for children to access only content appropriate to their age.

In light of concerns about the ability of some broadband infrastructures to withstand the impact generated by the arrival of Disney+, the platform will reduce its bandwidth consumption by at least 25%.

In Italy, users can subscribe to Disney+ directly from the site or through in-app purchase from the following platforms and devices:

  • Amazon (Fire TV devices, Fire TV Edition smart TV and Fire Tablet).
  • Apple (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Apple TV).
  • Google (Android smartphones, Android TV devices, Google Chromecast and Chromecast integrated devices).
  • LG Smart TV with webOS.
  • Microsoft (Xbox One).
  • Samsung Smart TV.
  • Sony/Sony Interactive Entertainment (Sony TV with Android system and PlayStation®4).

Thanks to a global distribution plan and several strategic agreements, Disney+ is also available through the most important European TLC and TV operators thanks to local agreements involving them:

  • TIM in Italy
  • Deutsche Telekom in Germany
  • O2 in the United Kingdom
  • Telephonics in Spain
  • Canal+ in France (from 7 April)

The specifications of such offers vary according to country and operator.

In the United Kingdom and Ireland, Disney also has a distribution agreement with Sky, which makes Disney+ available on Sky Q and, in the coming months, on NOW TV.

The price of Disney+ in Italy is confirmed at €6.99 per month or €69.99 per year.

Summer 2020 will be followed by launches in further Western European markets, including Belgium, Scandinavia and Portugal.
