The first Capsule Collection BARBIE by FILIPPO LATERZA for ORIGINAL MARINES
Presented in Milan, “Original ICON Collection” is the name of the BARBIE Capsule Collection by FILIPPO LATERZA for ORIGINAL MARINES which, announced last June, was presented in Milan during an exclusive event with a personalized setting at the Cloisters of San Barnaba. The long-awaited limited edition was presented for the first time in the presence of the three exceptional actors, Original Marines, Barbie and Filippo Laterza, who designed and created the Original ICON Collection.
Thanks to Barbie and Original Marines, the girls will have the opportunity to wear garments designed by an authentic high fashion designer like Filippo Laterza. The capsule collection is a tribute to the most famous fashion doll in the world that has inspired, since childhood, the career of the new enfant prodige of Italian high fashion.
“It was a great emotion for me when Mattel asked me to try my hand at a capsule collection for the 60th anniversary of Barbie, I immediately took up the challenge of creating a collection that can talk about my vision of the icon that has inspired girls for 60 years and beyond. – said Filippo Laterza – Barbie was my first approach to fashion when I was a child I used to make clothes for her and now I finally have the chance to dream with Barbie, just like I did as a child.”
Always close to the world of fashion, fashion icon and more, Barbie inspires girls to be what they have wanted since her birth in 1959. In the Original ICON Collection, Filippo Laterza also expresses his creativity through the choice to combine the iconic pink Barbie to the mauve color, the color that identifies his label, as well as color that represents creativity. The capsule is composed of 16 iconic and representative garments inspired by the ’60s revisited in a contemporary key and rich in details such as the exclusive all over print with photographic reproductions of Barbie, precious glitter prints and applications of rhinestones and embroidery. Made with vaporous, soft and soft touch fabrics, such as chenille, stretch jersey, tulle and chiffon, the garments that make up the capsules range from leggings to sweaters, from skirts to dresses. The outfits are completed with two proposals for outerwear, the biker style bomber in satin with raglan sleeves and pink lurex knit details and the eco fur coat with a degraded effect.
The Original ICON Collection is available in a selection of Original Marines stores and on the brand’s official website.
“We are very happy to be part of such an important project linked to an icon known all over the world and to a haute couture brand like Filippo Laterza. – commented Rocco Rella, Marketing Original Marines – Original ICON Collection Director, highlights Original Marines’ strong ties with the world of children and its ability to seize new opportunities to communicate and interact with consumers and to convey the brand’s values. The presentation event of the Original ICON Collection represents the starting point of a much broader project, which includes a comprehensive communication and marketing plan, with specific offline and online activities, which will involve not only our stores but also the world of the web with the creation of a dedicated site and digital activities designed to stimulate the artistic talent of children.”
The exclusive Original ICON Collection project is linked to a competition that will allow, by connecting to the dedicated website www.originalicon.it from 16 to 30 September, to create a personalized look with the garments of the capsules designed by Filippo Laterza and to win with the instant win mode one of the fantastic prizes up for grabs: the ‘Casa dei Sogni’, the ‘Casa di Malibù’ of Mattel or the ‘Cucina di Grandi Giochi’. The contest will reward a winner every day.
Lisa Weger, Head of Regional Consumer Products Europe Mattel comments on the partnership: “As the number one fashion doll in the world, fashion has always been at the heart of the Barbie brand. Combining the iconic doll, a successful clothing company like Original Marines and talented and dynamic designer Filippo Laterza, the “Original ICON Collection” interprets the essence of Barbie in the year of its 60th anniversary. We are thrilled to see the birth of this incredible collaboration, which highlights Barbie’s special bond with the fashion industry through fresh and innovative designs.”
