The Lagoon Group extend Professor Rubik’s line into wood & wire puzzles

20 Feb - 2019

The new range of products recently launched at Spring Fair to a great reception.

As consumers have come to enjoy more variety and imagination from the Rubik’s brand extension program, there’s a growing demand and interest for toys that extend the brand from its core of the iconic Cube into creative and innovative product applications.

The Lagoon Group continues to leverage these opportunities in the gifting market through their Professor Rubik’s line, which features a range of products that pay homage to the architectural roots of Rubik’s Cube creator Professor Ernő Rubik and draws reference from the original wooden prototype of the Rubik’s Cube, which was hand carved originally by Ernő Rubik’s and took over 2 months to create.

This successful formula has seen the line go from strength to strength since its launch in 2017, with Lagoon creating a selection of award-winning Professor Rubik’s puzzle blocks, tabletop puzzles, mini puzzle books and tinned puzzle cards. For 2019 they have again enhanced their line with a range of new wire and wooden puzzles that include:

– A range of beautiful bamboo puzzles, featuring a range of coloured wooden puzzles that offer several different levels of difficulty and challenges

– The Rubik’s Square, which is a beautifully-designed wooden square number puzzle with three levels of difficulty, whilst players need to ensure that every row, column and diagonal adds up to the same number.

– A range of wire puzzles with three varying levels of difficulty, as well as a display of 36 tabletop wire puzzles.

The Lagoon Group has also launched 2 new titles from their Professor Rubik deskblock collection – ‘Optical Illusions’ and ‘Lateral Thinking’ Puzzle a Day.

Speaking about the new launch, Lori Heiss-Tiplady, VP Brand Strategy at The Smiley Company said “It’s great to see the continued success of this Professor Rubik concept which was created and conceived by Smiley CEO and Creative Director Nicolas Loufrani as part of our brand extension strategy to grow the Rubik’s brand.

We’ve worked closely with Lagoon to create an innovative range of products that brings together the marriage of art & intelligence through beautiful vintage designs and mind-bending play. The Professor Rubik line taps into the tactile, nostalgic semiotics of vintage games, blending the historical with the modern by using design from past generations to entertain kids and adults of the future. We are focused helping to create smarter future generations by developing products that help learning, boost intelligence and evolve Rubik’s STEM accreditation status.”
