Several new toy SKUs from Simba Toys are set for debut in 2019 for the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Award-nominated animated series, The Deep, co-produced by DHX Media and A Stark Production. The Deep follows the adventures of the Nekton family—a brilliant team of underwater explorers. With state-of-the-art technology and an unquenchable thirst for discovery, the Nektons explore the mysterious depths of the ocean, where most of our world lies unexplored and unexplained.

New for 2019 is the Red Claw, the rover vehicle of the Dark Orca Pirates! With the Red Claw, Captain Hammerhead, Mad Madeline and Smiling Finn can dig for treasure or even battle the Nekton family’s own Rover. With movable arms, the waterproof Red Claw can be taken into the bathtub, and when the button on the side of the vehicle is pressed, the Red Claw swims on the water surface, propelling forward. Children can play scenes from the series at home and be part of The Deep world. The Red Claw from Simba Toys is 30cm long and suitable for children 3 years+. Additional new SKUs for 2019 also include the Arronax, a large submarine and the home of the Nekton family; and the Swamp Knight, an amphibious EVA (extravehicular activity) suit used for exploring caves and surface wetlands.
Several vehicles and playsets debuted in 2018 including the Nekton family’s vehicle – The Rover – poseable action figures, underwater creatures, and the fully poseable Mag Knight and White Knight, all also suitable for land or water play.
German Market
In Germany, The Deep is the best Simba Toys’ boys’ property for 2018. Sales are tracking 30% over forecast, with re-orders from key retailers. The fall 2018 toy launch was supported by a TV advertising campaign that will continue in March/April of 2019. Brand awareness for The Deep is high in Germany. The series is consistently one of Super RTL’s top shows.
