100 magnificent board books from all over the world, selected by the Bologna Children’s Book Fair for Pitti Immagine Bimbo 2019.
The collaboration between Bologna Children’s Book Fair – the world’s leading professional event in publishing for children and teenagers, organized by BolognaFiere planned from 1 to 4 April 2019 – and Pitti Immagine Bimbo, the international leading event in the world of fashion and child lifestyle, continues. A partnership born in 2016 that combines the creativity of the international BCBF illustration and the best of Pitti Bimbo kids’ fashion. The next appointment is at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence from 17 through 19 January 2019.
The Extraordinary Library, a project by Bologna Children’s Book Fair for Pitti Immagine Bimbo, returns to Florence in its third edition with a selection of 100 books dedicated to the “toddler”, the young children who still “stagger”. They are books published dedicated to 1-3 years old children, according to the most rigorous and cultured design language, thanks to the cultural aesthetic research that the international children’s publishing industry is dedicating to the very first childhood. They are books that reinvent their form: they have robust and resistant pages, the most refined paper products, little stories and iconic characters that are offered through small formats to the little baby’s hands as very early listening and reading experiences. Or, on the contrary, through large formats such as backgrounds to immerse yourself in, pages of images without words to explore the figures to find hidden details and discover simple and complex shapes.
In the international editorial scene of the “toddler book” there are audacious and surprising experiments, which also introduce art, architecture and many different languages. Bologna Children’s Book Fair for 2019 has chosen to dedicate the special category of the Bologna Ragazzi Award to the children, so The Extraordinary Library Toddler Books! offers a preview of the international panorama of the book for very young people. The exhibition is curated by Silvana Sola (Cooperative Giannino Stoppani) and Marcella Terrusi (University of Bologna) on behalf of Bologna Children’s Book Fair.
