Launched in 1981, Captain Tsubasa has become the idol of an entire generation. The strong determination of the hero Tsubasa and his incredible technics have inspired many kids, playing today in top European Football teams. The new series is set to premiere in Japan this April on TV Tokyo.

We are very proud to expand one of the most iconic franchises that resonates with an incredible fanbase” said Aâdil Tayouga, EMEA Senior Licensing Manager. “We are very excited to introduce Captain Tsubasa to a new generation of kids!

To celebrate 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, VIZ Media Europe and its unique 360° licensing strategy expertise will continue the fantastic story of Captain Tsubasa, supported by a robust retail and marketing program.

The new anime recounts the events of the original manga series that was originally serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shounen Jump comic book magazine between 1981 and 1988, with 37 volumes. Captain Tsubasa has sold over 82 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling manga series. The manga triggered a huge football boom in Japan and inspired three previous television anime series, four anime films, mobile and console video games, and even a stage play.
