Viacom purchased LCN 49 on FTA where Spike channel has been just lunched and closed the joint venture with De Agostini publisher for Super!, the kids channel on FTA.

Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN), a division of Viacom Inc., announced the purchase of LCN 49 from Scripps Networks Interactive in Italy, where Viacom launched last October 22nd the local version of Spike channel, and at the same time confirms the joint venture with De Agostini Editore for Super!, the kids channel already present on Italian digital terrestrial (LCN 47), through the acquisition of 50% of the channel and its assets.

The two operations are part of Viacom’s expansion strategy in Italy, which is based both on strong positioning on the Pay platform, thanks to the excellent partnership with Sky, and through the expansion of the free portfolio, which allows the international media company to reach wider the Italian public with all its products. These two acquisitions are added to previous announcements the advertising side with De Agostini Editore, Sony, Scripps Networks Interactive and Radio Italia, making Viacom Advertising & Brand Solutions one of the first Media Company in Italy with 18 channels represented, of which 13 are in the lead’ Viacom publisher.

Andrea Castellari, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Viacom Italia, Middle East and Turkey, commented: “These important acquisitions complement our strategy, which has begun for some years now, to make Viacom become an increasingly important player in the Italian market, both as a publisher and as a point of reference for international networks that want to invest in Italy at the advertising level and more”.

Viacom already has two channels on digital terrestrial, Paramount Channel (LCN 27) and VH1 (LCN 67).

Thanks to the launch of Paramount Channel in February 2016, Viacom has been steadily increasing its reach by reaching 30 million viewers per month as a publisher. *
